SCABIES, SKIN MITES, SARCOPTES SCABIEIHave you been looking for a safe and effective way to put an end to itchy, painful and embarrassing scabies?Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by the infestation of a tiny burrowing mite, Sarcoptes scabiei. The female scabies mite burrows into the outer layer of skin to lay her eggs producing an intense, itchy skin rash.

The presence of the scabies mite can be identified by a painful and intense itching which usually intensifies at night. Marked by a thin red line about half an inch long, the burrow can be very hard to identify. Common places to look are usually soft and thin areas of the skin with few hair follicles, such as the webs between the fingers and toes, the folds of the armpits, creases of the groin, genitalia, buttocks, elbows, knees, and around the wrists or waist.

Symptoms of a first outbreak can occur 4 to 6 weeks after contact with a person infected with scabies. Those with previous infestations of scabies often develop symptoms within a few days to a week.

Scabies

In the past, the cause of scabies was considered to be lack of hygiene or unhealthy lifestyle. However, the truth is that the cause of scabies is simply direct physical contact (from a handshake to sexual contact) with a person or objects (such as clothing or bedding) infested with scabies.

The scabies mite is very contagious and one infected person can spread to hundreds of others, regardless of age, gender or sex. Scabies are highly contagious, and can be passed quickly from person to person as long as the mite is still present on the infected person. The communicability of scabies lasts until the infected person and his environment has been treated.

The scabies mites multiply rapidly and in large numbers, and if left untreated, can produce crusted scabies, causing the skin to become thick, discolored and very painful. Impetigo is another complication resulting from untreated scabies. This bacterial infection is very difficult to treat and can be avoided by paying attention to the earlier signs of scabies.

Anyone with symptoms and those sharing the household should be checked for scabies as soon as possible. It will also be necessary to wash bedding, clothing and towels in hot water and dried on the hot cycle while clothing and other items that cannot be washed should be stored in a closed plastic bag for 1 week, as the mite can not survive more than a few days off the body.

Because of the stigma attached to the scabies infestation, affected people often refrain telling others of their condition which could delay diagnosis and treatment. However, nearly 300 million people worldwide are infected and although the causes of scabies can't be prevented, the mite infestation can be effectively treated.
